Marina Beach is a natural urban
beach in Chennai, Tamil
Nadu, India, along the Bay
of Bengal. The beach runs from near Fort
St. George in the north to Foreshore
Estate in the south, a distance of
6.0 km (3.7 mi), making it the longest natural urban beach in
the country. The Marina is primarily sandy, unlike the short, rocky
formations that make up the Juhu
Beach in Mumbai. The average width of the beach is 300 m(980 ft) and the width at the widest stretch is 437 m(1,434 ft). Bathing and swimming at the Marina Beach are legallyprohibited because of the dangers, as the undercurrent is very turbulent. It is
one of the most crowded beaches in the country and attracts about 30,000
visitors a day during weekdays] and 50,000 visitors a day during the weekends and onholidays. During summer months, about 15,000 to 20,000 people visit the beachdaily.
Anna Memorial, locally known as Anna Samadhi, is a memorial
structure built on the Marina
beach in Chennai, India. It was built in memory of former Chief Minister of Tamil
Nadu, C.
N. Annadurai (1967-69), who was
cremated here in 1969. The memorial lies on the northern end of the Marina
abutting the MGR Memorial. The
veteran leader of the DravidaMunetraKazhagam (DMK) party and the former Chief Minister of Tamil
Nadu Karunanidhi is also
buried at the same site on 8 August 2018.
MGR Memorial is a memorial structure built on the Marina
beach in Chennai, India. It was built in memory of Former Chief Ministers of Tamil
Nadu, M. G. Ramachandran and J.
Jayalalithaa. Spread over 8.25 acres,
the memorial is located adjacent to the Anna
Memorial and has the highest footfall on
the seafront. The body of Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and MGR'sProtege J. Jayalalithaa is buried at this site on December 5, 2016.
